Kehinde Wiley is a realistic portrait painter that recreates classical images using contemporary, urban models. He's known for his bright colors, patterned backgrounds, and unique subject matter.
For this assignment, we will be using live models to recreate a classic painting. You will use brushes to create an elaborate, patterned background...just like Kehinde.
First, we need to do some research....
1. Create a new page titled Kehinde Wiley.
2. Research the life and work of Kehinde Wiley. Write 4-6 sentences that summarize this information.
3. Choose your FAVORITE or LEAST FAVORITE painting by Kehinde Wiley. Post this to your Kehinde Wiley page. Be sure to include its actual title.
4. Write a 4-6 sentence paragraph that critiques your chosen painting.
Make sure that your spelling and grammar is PERFECT. Have someone proofread your work. This information should be posted to your WEEBLY page by the end of class Monday, November 5, 2012.

What's next?
We're going to be creating 3 different paintings inspired by the work of Kehinde Wiley. Here's how you will proceed:
1. Create three new files that are 16x20 inches (300 resolution). These will be your backgrounds. These are DUE by the end of class Wednesday, November 7, 2012.
2. Use BRUSHEEZY to select "fancy" brushes that mimic the style of Kehinde's backgrounds. Be sure to save these brushes somewhere safe. You will use them again later. Use at least 3 different kinds of brushes in each background
3. Decide which 3 of the paintings listed above you want to recreate.
4. On your Kehinde Wiley page, drag down three different photo galleries (one for each painting).
5. Post an image of the original paintings in each of your galleries (one painting in each gallery). Be sure to label
6. Have a friend(or friends) model for you. They should pose in the SAME position as the people in your chosen paintings. You only need one photograph for each painting, but make sure it works(make sure the lighting is good, the pose is right, the photo is not blurry). These photographs are due Friday, November 9, 2012.
7. Upload the original photographs to the correct photo gallery on your Kehinde Wiley page.
8. In PHOTOSHOP, turn on the grid and use your "fancy" brushes to create 3 different complex, patterned backgrounds.

9. Open up the photograph you will use for your first painting.
10. Select just the figures using any of the methods we've learned in class.
12. Apply an artistic filter to the selected figures (try pallette knife, paint daubs, or watercolor).
13. Use the move tool to move your figures to one of your backgrounds.
14. Create a new layer.
15. On the new layer, use some of the brushes you used to make the background to paint on top of the figures.
16. When you are finished, save the file as a JPEG and post it to the correct gallery on your Kehinde Wiley page.
17. Give your piece a museum title.
18. Repeat the process for the remaining paintings.
All of this should be completed and posted to your WEEBLY site by Tuesday, November 13, 2012.
